Cut the watermelon in half lengthwise.

Remove the black seeds and scoop out the flesh with a spoon

Or cut each half into quarters and dice it into cubes, discarding the rind.

How to make fresh watermelon juice?

For watermelon ginger juice, put the watermelon, ginger and lemon juice in a blender and blitz until liquid.

Pour the juice into a glass directly if you like it pulpy or pass it through the strainer to remove the pulp and any seeds.

Enjoy the sweet and zingy watermelon ginger juice.

For watermelon mint juice, add the watermelon, salt, pepper and mint leaves to the blender and blitz for a couple of minutes or until liquid.

Either filter through the strainer or divide it into glasses.

Refreshing mint-flavoured watermelon juice is ready to enjoy.

For spicy watermelon juice, add the watermelon, cumin powder, crushed pepper, chat masala and salt to a blender.

Blitz for a couple of minutes until liquid.

Either pour the pulpy juice into the glass or pass it through the strainer to remove the pulp.

Enjoy spicy and sweet watermelon juice.

    Enjoy flavourful fresh watermelon juice.

    Substitutions

    For watermelon ginger juice

Fresh ginger could be substituted with dried ginger powder.

    Watermelon Mint Juice

Fresh mint leaves could be substituted with dried leaves.

    Spicy Watermelon Juice

Crushed pepper could be substituted with a pinch of chilli powder.

You can substitute chat masala with amchoor powder (dried mango powder) and pepper powder.

    Tips and Tricks

Try using seedless watermelon to speed up the process.

If using watermelon with seeds, then cut it in half lengthwise and cut each half into thin slices. Remove black seeds using a knife or fork. It's not necessary to remove white seeds.

To minimise the mess use an extra large chopping board to cut watermelon. Due to the high water content of the watermelon, It's even better to place a big tray under the chopping board to catch the drip while cutting.

I didn't add any sweetener as the watermelon I used was extremely sweet. Feel free to add a sweetener for more sweetness.

    Storage

Watermelon Juice tastes best when consumed immediately after making it. However leftover juice could be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container.

    Serving Suggestions

    FAQs

How to use up leftover watermelon juice?

Use the leftover watermelon juice to make popsicles. Fill the popsicle mould and pop it in the freezer. It's a refreshing and cooling dessert for kids.

Consider freezing watermelon juice in an ice cube tray. Use them in cocktails, mocktails and smoothies or add them to a jug of water and turn it into flavoured water.

How to pick a good watermelon?

Here are a few quick and easy ways to choose a good watermelon:

    1. Pick a fruit that has a dull-looking dark green colour rind. The shiny fruit indicates an underripe.

    2. The fruit must be heavy for its size.

    3. The yellow field spot indicates the ripeness of the fruit. The larger webbing and darker yellow colour indicate the fruit has spent a considerable amount of time resting on the ground to ripen. Do not choose the fruit with a white spot or almost no spot.

    4. Ripe fruit makes a deep sound when gently tapped with knuckles on the rind.
