Watermelon slushie - refreshing and healthy summer drink

Watermelon is a true summer superfruit that has tons of health benefits and this slushie is a great way to keep kids and adults hydrated. This super fruit has a relatively high water content that helps to rehydrate during hot and humid summer days. It is also a great source of vitamins and antioxidants.

Check out mango lassi, rose lassi, tropical smoothie, strawberry banana milshake, pineapple banana smoothie that are delicious summer drinks.

    Watermelon slushie recipe variations

I kept my recipe simple and kid-friendly with just 2 ingredients. You could add a few mint sprigs for added flavour. I have added a dash of lime juice to enhance the taste and to add a bit of zing, do not add it if your kid doesn't like that tangy and sweet taste. Make it more interesting by adding little sparkling water just before serving if your kids like fizzy drinks. You could add maple syrup, honey, coconut sugar or any healthy sweetener to increase sweetness.

    Let's see in detail how to make watermelon slushie;

    Ingredients

Watermelon: 3 cups ( 1 cup fresh, 2 cups frozen)

    Lemon juice: from ½ lemon

    Instructions

Cut the watermelon into chunks, remove the skin.

Place 2 cups watermelon in a freezer bag and pop it in the freezer for a few hours before you plan to make a slushie.

Once frozen blend them with fresh watermelon and lemon juice in a high power blender.

Adding watermelon and lime juice in a blender.

You may need to scrape down the sides a few times and continue to blend until smooth and slushie.

    blending watermelon.

Transfer slushie to a glass and serve immediately.

    Notes

Adjust lemon juice as per your required taste.

If you do not have a high power blender, use a food processor.

For us, natural sweetness from watermelon is sufficient. You could add maple syrup, honey or any sweetener if necessary.
