The refreshing fruit slushies are absolutely delicious and creative ways to maintain interest and encourage kids who generally don't like fruits to consume them without any fuss. It's a perfect thirst quencher on hot summer days and keeps kids hydrated.

You only need 2 ingredients watermelon and lemon juice, and 5 minutes of your spare time if frozen watermelon is on hand. This is an ideal recipe to involve kids and a great way to teach them kitchen skills. Easy and fun recipes such as date snickers, banana popsicles, strawberry frozen yogurt, strawberry frozen yogurt bark, chocolate peanut butter energy balls, bread pizza are a few recipes you could consider doing with kids.

Cooking with kids is a great way to bond with kids. It not only helps them to learn essential life skill but also allow them to explore and try food with various texture and flavour that they wouldn’t want to try otherwise. While cooking with kids sounds lovely, kid's safety should be given the utmost importance. Ensure young kids do not handle the blender on their own. Refer safety disclaimer for more details.

Watermelon is a true summer superfruit that has tons of health benefits and this slushie is a great way to keep kids and adults hydrated. This super fruit has a relatively high water content that helps to rehydrate during hot and humid summer days. It is also a great source of vitamins and antioxidants.

Watermelon Slushie Recipe Variations

I kept my recipe simple and kid-friendly with just 2 ingredients. You could add a few mint sprigs for added flavour.

I have added a dash of lime juice to enhance the taste and to add a bit of zing, do not add it if your kid doesn't like a hint of tangy taste.

Make it more interesting by adding little sparkling water just before serving if your kids like fizzy drinks.

You could add maple syrup, honey, coconut sugar or any healthy sweetener to increase sweetness.

Ingredients

Watermelon: 3 cups ( 1 cup fresh, 2 cups frozen)

Lemon juice: from ½ lemon

How to freeze watermelon?

Cut the fresh watermelon into chunks, remove the skin and remove the seeds. Place them on a lined baking sheet in a single layer. Keep the tray in the freezer for 3-4 hours until the chunks are solid. Take the baking sheet out of the freezer and transfer the frozen chunks into a freezer bag and pop it in the freezer.

How to make a watermelon slushie?

Place fresh watermelon cubes, frozen chunks and lime juice in a high-power blender.

Blend it until smooth and slush.

You may need to scrape down the sides a few times while blending.

Transfer the refreshing frozen watermelon slushie to a glass and serve immediately.

Notes

Adjust lemon juice as per your required taste.

If you do not have a high-power blender that can be used for frozen stuff, use a food processor.

This is a healthy watermelon slushie as the natural sweetness of the watermelon is sufficient for my kids. You could add maple syrup, honey or any sweetener if necessary.

Use ripe watermelon, even seedless watermelon can be used.
