A delicious blend of pineapple, banana, and yogurt is perfect as after school snack. Pineapple and banana are the two most preferred fruits for smoothies and milkshakes.

The tropical flavour of pineapple balances the sweet and tart taste. Banana beautifully blends with most of the fruits in any recipe. In this recipe banana has 2 advantages, first, it provides the creamy texture that appeals to kids, second, it naturally provides sweetness to the smoothie and the recipe doesn’t actually need extra sugar or syrup which ultimately makes this smoothie healthy.

Kids need to have healthy snacks after school, I think smoothies are a quick and easy option. You really can’t get a much quicker energizing option than smoothies.

They require just a few minutes to whip up and are packed with vitamins, fiber, and other nutrients to keep kids fueled until their next meal. This is a great way to boost our kid’s fruits and veggies intake.

Pineapple banana smoothie recipe variations

As banana provides sufficient sweetness, my kids enjoy this smoothie as it is without any added sugar. However, for extra natural sweetness add extra banana or dates to suit your kid’s taste buds.

You could add ground cardamom, vanilla extract or ground cinnamon to enhance the flavour.

For a vegan smoothie, swap dairy yogurt for plant based yogurt such as almond yogurt or coconut yogurt.

Ingredients

Pineapple: 1 cup, chopped

Banana: 1, peeled and chopped

Yogurt: 1 cup

How to make pineapple and banana smoothie?

Place pineapple chunks, large banana and yogurt in the blender jar.

Blend all the ingredients in a blender until all the ingredients are well combined and smooth.

Pour a healthy pineapple banana smoothie into your kid’s favourite glass/tumbler and serve them.

Notes

Swap normal yogurt with greek yogurt to get a rich and extra creamy texture.

For extra sweetness, add dates or 1 more banana to suit your kids taste buds.

Reduce pineapple, in case it is more tart.

I wouldn’t suggest adding ice cubes as it alters the consistency. Rather use frozen pineapple and a frozen banana for an extra thick and super chilled smoothie.

Adjust the consistency to suit your preference.

Is Smoothie too thick? Add more yogurt or a dash of pineapple juice to thin the smoothie. Alternatively, you could use almond milk/ orange juice or apple juice if you don’t have pineapple juice on hand.

Is Smoothir too thin? add extra banana or pineapple and blend until smooth.

For a vegan version, use plant based yogurt instead of dairy.

Storage

This smoothie with pineapple and banana tastes best when consumed immediately. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge or freezer to use later. However, the taste may not be the same as freshly made.

Fridge: Store leftover smoothie in an airtight container or a jar with a lid on in the fridge and finish it off in a day.
Freezer: Consider storing the leftovers in the freezer for a longer shelf life. Either store it in an ice cube tray or divide and store a sizable individual portion in each mason jar.

How to serve?

This vegan smoothie is great as an after-school snack for kids along with savoury munchies such as masala peanuts, masala corn or peanut chaat.

Great to serve at a kid’s party along with bread pizzaflatbread pizza and vegetable quesadilla.

A healthy drink to pair with carrot pasta, pumpkin pasta or zucchini mushroom pasta so kids eat their healthy meals without any fuss.
