My young 5 year old kid was so excited when we planned this recipe. He enjoyed adding all the ingredients to the bowl and shaping the mixture into balls, which has always been his favourite step. You will often see him doing this in most of the recipes in cooking with kids category.
Since he doesn’t like the mixture sticking to his hands, he greased his palms with oil, which helped him shape easily and he loved filling the centre of cookies with chopped almonds. My 12 year old girl enjoyed mixing the ingredients and lightly flattening the balls with the back of a spoon.
Although she is keen on handling the oven, I’m not quite confident enough to let her do that yet. May be i am just being an overprotective mom! Either way, I felt really happy seeing both kids share tasks and cooperate so well throughout the process.
These orange almond cookies served with a glass of milk make a filling evening snack for kids or pack them in their snack box. These healthy orange flavoured treats are not just for kids, but also for adults following gluten free diets or those looking to avoid refined sugar.
Cooking with kids can be enjoyable, but their safety should be prioritised. Only allow older kids to handle the oven with appropriate mitts if you believe they are capable and keep younger ones at a safe distance while it’s in use. Always supervise kids while they are using the oven. For more details, check out the recipe and safety disclaimer.

Topping: Try cashews or pistachios instead of almonds.
Spices: A big pinch of cardamom or cinnamon adds a lovely flavour to the cookies.
Tips and Tricks
Baking time: Keep an eye on the oven as the cookies bake, as the baking time depends on your oven’s settings and the thickness of the cookies.
Spacing: Place cookies on a lined baking sheet with a little spacing between them. Too much spacing is not necessary, as almond cookies don’t spread much during baking.
Oil: Grease hands with oil before shaping the mixture into balls to prevent it from sticking to your hands.
Storage
Store cookies in an airtight jar at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Make sure cookies have cooled completely before storing, as trapped moisture causes condensation in the jar and makes cookies soggy.
