Recipes made with tiny helping hands are always extra special and these vegan banana almond cookies are simple enough for kids to make with just three simple ingredients. With no complicated steps, this recipe is not only perfect for kids but for beginner bakers as well.

The natural sweetness from banana, warm cardamom flavour, slightly crispy outer and soft texture inside make these cookies more irresistible and a perfect replacement for store bought cookies loaded with sugar and preservatives.

These sugar free almond cookies and other homemade treats such as frozen banana pops, vegatable pasta salad, coconut superseed stuffed dates, no cook vegetable sandwich and 3 ingredient orange almond cookies are small reminders that homemade doesn’t have to be complicated to be special and these simple recipes turn quality time together with kids into beautiful memories.

My 5 and 12 year old kids enjoyed making this treat. The best part they loved to mash bananas, mix, scoop and shape the cookies. Check the videos in cooking with kids category featuring them.

These almond banana cookies served with a glass of milk make a filling evening snack for kids or pack them in their snack box. These healthy cookies are not just for kids, but also for adults following gluten free diets or those looking to avoid refined sugar.

Cooking with kids can be enjoyable, but their safety should be prioritised. Only allow older kids to handle the oven with appropriate mitts if you believe they are capable and keep younger ones at a safe distance while it’s in use. Always supervise kids while they are using the oven. For more details, check out the recipe and safety disclaimer.

Substitutions and Variations

Topping: Try chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios or chocolate chips instead of banana.

Flavouring Agent: Try cinnamon or vanilla extract instead of cardamom.

Tips and Tricks

Baking time: Be sure to keep an eye on the oven while cookies bake, as the baking time depends on your oven’s settings and the thickness of the cookies.

Spacing: Place cookies on a lined baking sheet with a little spacing between them. Too much spacing is not required, as banana cookies don’t spread much during baking.

Oil: Lightly oil your hands before shaping the mixture into balls to keep it from sticking.

Banana: Use ripe bananas for the best cookies. The riper the bananas, the sweeter and softer the cookies will be. Bananas with spots work best.

Storage

Store banana cookies in an airtight jar at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Allow cookies to cool completely before storing, as trapped moisture can cause condensation in the jar and make cookies soggy.

These cookies taste good when slightly warmed before serving.

FAQ

Why are my banana cookies too soft?

Banana cookies are naturally soft inside with a slightly crisp outer. But do not worry if they are too soft straight out of the oven, as they firm up while cooling. So it is essential to let cookies cool for 5-10 minutes once they are out of the oven.

Can I freeze banana almond cookies?

Yes, you can freeze cookies for about a month. Make sure to thaw and warm them slightly before serving.

Are banana almond cookies gluten free?

Yes, these almond banana cookies are naturally gluten free and flourless.
