Almond flour flower cookies – fun and visually appealing cookies made with a few basic pantry ingredients. They are naturally vegan, gluten free, oil free and easy enough for kids to shape themselves.

These cookies are as much fun to make as they are to eat. Two simple vanilla and chocolate flavoured almond flour doughs, rolled into small balls, arranged into flower shapes and baked. No rolling pin, no cutters, no fuss. This is one of those recipes where rolling and assembling are engaging kids activities.
As these cookies are made by kids, the flowers come out charmingly uneven rather than flawless like bakery cookies. The petals fuse together as they bake, colours don’t bleed into each other and no two flowers look quite the same, as the fun is in the process!

Cooking with kids can be enjoyable, but their safety should be prioritised. Only allow older kids to handle the oven with appropriate mitts if you believe they are capable and keep younger ones at a safe distance while it’s in use. Always supervise kids while they are using the oven. For more details, check out the recipe and safety disclaimer.

How To Make Almond Flour Flower Cookies?

In separate bowls, make light coloured and dark coloured dough.

Roll small balls from both doughs and place them separately.

On a lined baking tray, place the balls in a flower shape.

Gently press down to flatten slightly.

Bake until set.

Cool on tray.

Serve almond flour flower cookies on their own or with fresh green grape juice or mango milkshake.
Storage
Store these two toned almond flour cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days or in the fridge for up to a week. Let cookies cool completely before transferring them into a container, as warm cookies leads to condensation which softens cookies and reduce their shelf life.
Tips and Tricks
Baking time: Keep an eye on the cookies as they bake, as baking time depends on your oven settings and thickness of cookies.
Oil: Grease kid’s palms with oil before making small balls from dough to prevent it from sticking to their palms.
Press gently: A gentle press is enough to slightly flatten petals and help fuse as they bake. Pressing too hard loses flower definition.
Lined baking tray: Place dough balls directly on a lined baking tray and work on it rather than shaping on hand and transferring to keep the flower shape intact.
Dough: Keep both doughs and balls in separate plate/bowls until the last step, as even a little mixing between these doughs will blur the colour contrast.
Same size balls: Try rolling same size balls to get uniform petals.
Crumbly dough: If dough is too crumbly to hold the shape, add a splash of maple syrup to help it bind.

Recipe Notes
Don’t expect perfect flower shaped vanilla chocolate almond cookies, as these cookies are made by kids. Although balls fuse together as they bake, each flower turns out a little different. Those imperfect flowers are not a flaw but the creation of kids and charm of this recipe.
Allow kids to take charge to roll dough balls, arrange them on a lined baking sheet, decide what colour dough goes in the middle and petals, and press.
