A hot cup of mint tea and other caffeine-free herbal tea such as Hibiscus TeaTurmeric Ginger Cinnamon TeaKashayam make a great winter warmer.

Fresh mint is made with just 3 ingredients available in a grocery store. Mint is one of the fresh herbs with various health benefits due to its anti-inflammatory properties and help get rid of bad breath. It is a popular ingredient used in several food and drinks ranging from drinks – masala lassi, herbal tea to sauces such as Indian yogurt mint sauce to chutneys for example green chutney, salads such as corn cucumber tomato salad, Indian onion salad, and rice dishes such as pudina pulao, vegetable pulao. Mint leaves infuse fresh flavor and refreshing aroma into the dishes or drinks.

How to make fresh mint tea?

The best part of this tea is that it’s so easy to make yourself and it tastes absolutely delicious on its own without any add-ons. All it requires is a cup of water, few fresh mint leaves, a saucepan to brew the tea and 5 minutes of your time. The key is to tear up the mint leaves to infuse maximum flavour.

Which variety of mint can be used to make mint tea?

Among different varieties of mint available, any edible mint such as peppermint, spearmint, chocolate mint, lemon balm, ginger mint, orange mint, apple mint can be used. Usually called fresh peppermint tea, spearmint tea and so on based on the type of leaves you use. You can mix different kinds of mint together to make your own blend or keep it simple with just one type. Basically, it is a matter of personal taste not the kind of mint.

Regardless of the type of mint used, I personally prefer fresh mint over dried leaves as the flavour profile of fresh mint tea is just not comparable with its dried counterpart. Fresh leaves infuse refreshing and soothing menthol flavour, sweet aroma, while dried leaves can turn the tea bitter if brewed longer and flavours are rather dull.
