Golden Saffron Tea Recipe

Saffron tea – a soothing and warming drink that combines saffron’s delicate fragrance with cardamom’s warmth. Perfect for unwinding after a busy day or for cosying up on chilli days.

This refined sugar-free, caffeine-free and dairy-free tea packed full of flavours makes a healthy and aromatic drink to sip any time to uplift your mood.

The best thing about this saffron tea recipe is that it’s made with just four simple ingredients you likely already have in your pantry.

Ingredients

  • Spices: Saffron and green cardamom.
  • Sweetener: I used maple syrup but feel free to use any healthy sweetener of your choice.
  • Liquid: Water

See the recipe card for quantities.

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1: Place green cardamom in a mortar, grind with a pestle and remove the peel.

Step 2: Now add saffron strands and continue grinding until powder.

Step 3: Add warm water to the mortar and let the saffron mixture soak for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Meanwhile, bring 2 cups of water to boil in a saucepan.

Step 5: Add a soaked saffron mixture water, maple syrup and continue boiling for another 3-4 minutes.

Switch the heat off, pour saffron tea into a cup and serve it hot.

Substitutions and Variations

Sweetener: You could use honey instead of maple syrup. Stir in honey after you switch the heat off.

Spices: Try freshly grated ginger or a pinch of black pepper powder to spice up the tea.

Cardamom: If you have cardamom powder on hand, you can use it instead of whole cardamom.

Tips and Tricks

Saffron: Grinding saffron in mortar and pestle to a powder helps extract maximum flavour when soaked.

Quantity: As saffron is a strong spice, just a pinch is sufficient for a cup of water.
