It is loaded with essential nutritions and an ideal dish to kick start the day or to enjoy as a snack as well. Perfect for including in a meal plan.

Kids will enjoy choosing and assembling their own fruits. This is an interesting recipe to keep young hands occupied and engaged.

The homemade almond granola used in this recipe includes pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, almonds, raisins and dried cranberries. Feel free to add extra nuts and dry fruits to make it more colourful and exciting for kids.

The serving is enough for my three- and ten-year-old kids. My kiddo loved assembling so much that he couldn’t stop adding more granola, yogurt, and topping up extra colourful fruits. Ultimately both my kids had to share the dish.

Substitutions and Variations

Sweetener: Drizzle honey, maple syrup, blueberry coulis or date caramel over the yogurt, if desired, for added sweetness.

Coconut: Sprinkle dried coconut chips over the entire banana split for extra crunch and flavour.

Fruits: Switch the flavour by using different variety fruits such as cherries, apple, pomegranate or peach.

Nut Butter: Drizzle a spoonful of almond or peanut butter for protein boost.

Vegan: Swap out the dairy yogurt for plant based alternatives like coconut yogurt.

Dessert: Swap out the greek yogurt for a scoop of homemade raspberry ice cream, vanilla ice cream, or strawberry frozen yogurt to turn it into a dessert.

Tips and Tricks

Choose Ripe Bananas: Make sure the bananas you choose are firm yet ripe. They should be yellow with a few brown spots, which indicates sweetness.

Enjoy Fresh: Assemble and let your kid enjoy breakfast banana split immediately after preparing so the toppings are at their freshest and the bananas don’t brown.

Dice Fruits: To avoid a choking hazard, cut the blueberries in half and other fruits into tiny pieces if you’re serving toddlers.

Presentation:  For an authentic banana split appearance, serve it in a long dish or plate with sufficient space to assemble. For a visually appealing presentation, arrange the banana halves side by side and top with the rest of the ingredients. I have used eco friendly disposable areca leaf plate here. FAQ

Can we prepare banana split a day before consuming?

I wouldn’t suggest preparing it ahead of time as the banana turns brown and the dish loses its fresh flavour.

Can we store leftover banana split in the fridge?

Leftover banana split don’t keep good in the fridge as the granola gets soggy, fruits discolour and banana start browning.

Banana split breakfast with yogurt tastes best when freshly assembled. So try to only prepare what is necessary.
