How to make banana chocolate quesadilla?
Slice the bananas into thin rounds.
Lay out one tortilla on a wooden board or a plate.
Sprinkle half of the chocolate chips evenly over one half of the tortilla.
Arrange the banana slices on top of the chocolate chips.
Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips and chopped walnuts over the bananas.
Fold the tortilla in half to cover the filling, creating a half-moon shape.
Spread butter on top of the tortilla.
Heat the sandwich maker and carefully place the quesadilla and toast for 2-3 minutes or until the tortilla turns golden brown and crispy. (only adults or older kids must do it)
Remove the quesadilla from the sandwich maker and transfer it to a cutting board. Let it cool for a minute, then use a sharp knife to cut it into wedges ((only adults must do it)! Serve warm with your kid's choice of toppings or dip.
Hint: Leave a little space at the edge of the tortilla while placing banana and chocolate chips to prevent banana and chocolate from spilling out while cooking.
Substitutions and Variations
Nut Butter: Spread a layer of peanut butter or almond butter on the tortilla before adding the chocolate chips and banana slices. This adds a creamy, nutty flavour.
Nuts and Seeds: Use almonds or pecans instead of walnuts over the chocolate and banana filling. Try pumpkin seeds or melon seeds for extra crunch.
Dairy-Free Options: Use dairy-free chocolate chips or chocolate spread and vegan butter or coconut oil to make the quesadillas dairy-free and vegan-friendly.
Drizzle with Honey: Drizzle honey over the filling before folding the tortilla for an extra touch of sweetness.
Gluten Free Option: Use gluten-free tortillas to make the quesadillas gluten-free.
Storage
Banana chocolate quesadilla tastes best when freshly prepared. You can refrigerate the leftovers for up to one day. However, the taste and texture could vary.
Fridge: Cover leftover quesadilla wedges with clingfilm or aluminium foil tightly, put them in an airtight container and store them in the fridge. Finish it off in a day.
Reheat: Take it out of the fridge, uncover and then reheat it in the air fryer or a pan on stovetop over medium heat until it's warmed through.
Serving Suggestions
Add toppings like whipped cream, date caramel sauce or blueberry coulis for extra indulgence.
A small scoop of vanilla ice cream, raspberry ice cream or strawberry frozen yogurt pairs well with warm quesadilla as a filling dessert or decadent snack.
Serve it with sweet dips such as yogurt fruit dip or chocolate fruit dip.
A glass of sweet and mildly spiced masala milk or turmeric milk makes a fabulous addition to this sweet quesadilla.
Tips and Tricks
Use Ripe Bananas: Make sure to use ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and flavour.
Choose the Right Chocolate: Use good quality chocolate for the best flavour. Semi-sweet or dark chocolate works well with the sweetness of the bananas. You can use either chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bars.
Don't Overfill: Avoid overfilling the quesadilla as it may cause the filling to spill out.
Use Butter: Grease the assembled tortilla with butter before cooking the quesadilla. This adds flavour and helps crisp up.
Cut with a Sharp Knife: Use a sharp knife to cut the quesadilla into wedges. A sharp knife will help you get clean cuts without squishing the filling. Do not allow kids to handle sharp knives.
Serve Warm: Serve the chocolate banana quesadilla warm for the best taste and texture. The melted chocolate and soft bananas are most delicious when enjoyed right after cooking.
FAQ
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Use cooking spray to grease the skillet or add a small block of butter and let it melt. Place the assembled quesadilla in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes. Flip carefully and cook for another 2-3 minutes or until the tortilla is golden brown and crispy.
Note: Cook the quesadilla over medium heat to ensure that the tortilla gets crispy and golden brown without burning. Keep an eye on the quesadilla and adjust the heat if necessary.
Flip Carefully: When it's time to flip the quesadilla, use a spatula to carefully lift and turn it over. Press down gently with the spatula to help seal the edges.
