Substitutions and Variations
Sweetener: You can substitute maple syrup with agave nectar or date syrup.
Spices: Try cardamom or nutmeg instead of cinnamon for warmth and flavour variation.
Nuts and Seeds: You can substitute walnuts or pecans for almonds and melon seeds for pumpkin seeds.
Dried Fruits: For a tropical twist, replace raisins with dried mango and coconut chips.
Oats: For a gluten-free option, use certified gluten free oats.
Storage
Store the granola in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight. Granola gets rancid more quickly if exposed to direct sunlight. It should stay fresh for 3-4 weeks when stored at room temperature.
Tips and Tricks
Low Temperature: Bake granola at a lower temperature (around 325°F or 160°C) and for a longer time. This prevents burning and allows granola to crisp up with a lovely texture.
Stirring During Baking: While baking, make sure to stir the granola halfway through for even baking.
Use Parchment Paper or Silicone Mat: Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent granola from sticking and make cleanup easier.
Orange: Use fresh juicy oranges that are in season to use in this orange granola recipe.
