This homemade kid friendly trail mix is a perfect healthy snacking option. The best part is that the combinations are endless and kids can play around and add or omit whatever they like or dislike.

Ingredients

  • Oats: Rolled oats (Old fashioned oats)
  • Dried Fruits and Seeds: Cranberries, raisins, pumpkin seeds and melon seeds.
  • Nuts and Other Ingredients: Roasted peanuts and dark chocolate chips.

Step By Step Instructions

In a bowl, combine toasted oats, raisins, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, melon seeds, chocolate chips and roasted peanuts.

Mix everything well with a spoon.

Substitutions and Variations

Dried Fruits: To make trail mix colourful and appealing, add dried pineapple, berries, apricots or coconut chips.

Spices: Try a pinch of cinnamon powder for extra flavour.

Granola: Try preparing trail mix with apple granola, chocolate granola, crunchy granola or almond vanilla granola Instead of oats and dry fruits.

Dairy Free: Use vegan chocolate chips.

Storage

Place the remaining trail mix in a clean airtight container and keep it at room temperature. It will remain fresh for up to 10 days if stored away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Tips and Tricks

Toast Oats: Toast the oats in the oven or on the stovetop until they become fragrant and lightly crisp. Toasted oats enhance the trail mix with a fabulous texture and flavour.

Cool Oats: Allow the toasted oats to cool completely before preparing the trail mix.

1 Cup = 250ml ; 1 Tablespoon = 15ml ; 1 Teaspoon = 5ml

  • ½ Cup Rolled Oats/Old Fashioned Oats
  • 1 Tablespoon Dried Cranberries
  • 1 Tablespoon Raisins
  • 1 Tablespoon Pumpkin Seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon Melon Seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon Roasted Peanuts
  • 2 Tablespoons Dark Chocolate Chips

Instructions
