Substitutions and Variations
Sweetener: Instead of maple syrup, use agave nectar, coconut sugar or date syrup for sweetness.
Extras: Add dried fruits and nuts such as apricots, almonds, cashews for extra flavour and texture.
Storage
It is essential to store properly to preserve the freshness, flavour, and texture of apple granola.
After the granola has cooled completely, store it in an airtight jar at room temperature. When stored properly, the granola can stay fresh and tasty for 3-4 weeks.
Tips and Tricks
Use Rolled Oats: Use rolled oats also known as old fashioned oats for making granola as they provide a great texture and absorb flavours effectively.
Even Coating: Make sure the wet ingredients thoroughly coat the dry mixture. Mix well to ensure everything is evenly combined.
Low and Slow Baking: Bake your granola at a lower temperature (around 290°F or 140°C) and for a longer time. This prevents burning and allows flavours to develop gradually.
Use Parchment Paper or Silicone Mat: Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and for easier cleanup.
Avoid Light and Heat: Keep your granola in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Exposure to heat and light can cause the granola to spoil more quickly.
