    Dahi Papdi Chaat (Indian Street Food Recipe)

    Dahi Papdi chaat - a spicy, sweet, tangy and crunchy street-side snack. One of the easy Indian street food recipes that can be made in just few minutes with pre-made green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, store-bought crunchy papdis, fine sev and few spices.

    Generally, chaats are extremely addicting as this category of dishes has every tongue-tickling element - sweet, spicy, tangy, crunchy. Just the name “chaats” has the power to make anyone crave for it anytime! Chaat is one such appetiser that in just one bite you could taste so many flavours that you get addicted to it. The best part of chaats is that you can customise them based on your taste and available ingredients. 

    How to make chutneys for Indian chaats? 

    Green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney are two essential chutneys used in every chaat recipe. These recipes are already on the blog, just click on the link to get these recipes. These chutneys could be made in advance and stored in the fridge. It is so quick and easy to make dahi papdi chaat once you have these chutneys ready in hand. 

    Tamarind chutney could be stored for up to 10 days in the fridge and green chutney for 2-3 days. For longer shelf life consider storing in a freezer in portions. 

    IS DAHI PAPDI CHAAT GOOD AS A PARTY APPETISER? 

    Yes!!! this certainly is a perfect party dish. This Indian Street food recipe is great crowd pleaser snack on special occasions such as kitty parties, family get together, potlucks. Have papdis, toppings, chutneys ready on table and let your guest assemble it.  

    FLAVOUR VARIATIONS

    Add chopped green chillies on top for fiery taste.  

    Overnight soaked and boiled chickpeas and vegetables such as tomato, cucumber makes a great addition. Or you could swap potatoes with moong sprouts for a healthy option.  

    Top it with pomegranate pearls and toasted peanuts for extra crunch and flavour. 

    Tips and Tricks to make tasty papdi chaat 

    Assemble this easy no cook Indian snack papdi chaat just before you serve as chutneys make sev and papdi soggy. 

    There is no standard procedure to assemble dahi papdi chaat.  You may sprinkle little chilli powder and chaat masala before topping papdis with chutneys. Or you may top up sweet yogurt first followed by green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney. 

    It is not necessary to follow exact measurements for chaats. Consider adding chutneys, spices and vegetables as much as you wish to suit your taste. 

    Homemade chutneys are better than store bought ones as they provide fresh flavours and elevate the taste of chaat.

    Ingredients

    Papdi: 7

    Potatoes: ⅓ cup, boiled and chopped

    Red Onion: ⅓ cup, chopped

    Sweet tamarind chutney: ⅓ cup

    Green chutney: ⅓ cup

    Yogurt: ⅓ cup

    Sugar: 1 tsp

    Chilli powder: ½ tsp

    Chaat masala: ½ tsp

    Sev: handful

    Coriander: handful

    Instructions

    To make sweet yogurt, combine yogurt and sugar in a bowl and mix well until smooth.

    1. Arrange papdis in a plate or shallow bowl.

    2 & 3. Top it up with boiled potato cubes, chopped onions.

    4. Now top up these papdis sweet tamarind chutney followed by green chutney.

    5. Now add sweet yogurt.

    6. Sprinkle chaat masala and chilli powder.

    7 & 8. Finally, garnish with chopped coriander and fine sev.

    Enjoy delicious and flavourful no cook Indian snack dahi papdi chaat immediately.

    Notes

    To put together this chaat quickly, make ahead green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney and store them in the fridge to use later. 

    Crunchy papdis are available in most of the Indian grocery stores or you may prepare them at home. 

    Ensure to assemble dahi papdi chaat just before you serve to prevent it from getting soggy.

    1 cup = 250ml ; 1 tablespoon = 15ml ; 1 teaspoon = 5ml

    • 7 Papdi
