This simple and delicious broccoli peas pasta packed with green vegetables is perfect for a quick weeknight meal or a comforting lunch.

This bright, vibrant, and flavourful pasta is a perfect comfort dish packed with goodness. It makes a fabulous dish for busy weekdays or to pack in a kid’s lunchbox.

It’s prepared with simple ingredients and takes under 30 minutes to make. You can choose any pasta shape to make it more appealing to kids. It’s also a great way to get kids to eat their vegetables.

Ingredients

  • Vegetables: Garlic, broccoli and green peas
  • Spices and Oil: Salt, crushed black pepper and extra virgin olive oil
  • Dairy: Cheddar cheese
  • Pasta: I used macaroni pasta but you could use any other pasta variety of your choice.

See the recipe card for quantities.

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1: Bring a pot of water to boil, add broccoli florets and boil for 4-5 minutes until tender.

Step 2: Remove the florets from the pot and place them in a bowl or a plate.

Step 3: Add pasta to the same pot of water and cook until al dente as per instructions of the packet.

Step 4: Meanwhile, in a pan or skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped garlic and fry until aromatic.

Step 5: Now add cooked broccoli, pasta water and mix well.

Step 6: Lightly mash and break broccoli with a spoon if you prefer smaller chunks.

Step 7: Now add peas, salt, pepper and stir well.

Step 8: Drain the cooked pasta from the water using a strainer and add it to the pan.

Step 9: Stir in grated cheese and toss until everything is well combined and heated through.

Serve piping hot broccoli peas pasta on its own or with any side dish of your choice.

Substitutions and Variations

Cream Base: If you prefer creamy sauce, add cream cheese or single cream.

Herbs: Mix in fresh parsley or basil for extra flavour.

Dairy Free: Use coconut milk or plant based cheese instead of cheddar.

Storage

Broccoli peas pasta tastes best when freshly prepared. However, leftover pasta keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days if stored in an airtight container.

Reheat: Place the desired portion in a heatproof bowl and reheat in the microwave until piping hot before serving.

Tips and Tricks

Olive Oil: Use extra virgin olive oil for rich flavour and taste.

Don’t Overcook: Cook pasta as per packet instructions until al dente.

Fresh Ingredients: Use fresh broccoli for a fresh taste.
