Instructions
Peel the green bananas and chop each of them into 2 or 3 pieces.
4 medium Green Banana/Raw Banana
Place it in a pot of water and bring it to a boil over medium heat.
Cook them until they are cooked but firm.
Drain the water, mash it with a potato masher and set it aside.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
2 Teaspoons Oil
Add mustard, urad dal and let them splutter.
½ Teaspoon Mustard, 1 Teaspoon Urad Dal
Now add chana dal, cumin and saute until the dal turns golden.
1 Teaspoon Chana Dal, ½ Teaspoon Cumin
Stir in curry leaves and saute for few seconds until fragrant.
1 sprig Curry Leaves
Now add garlic, onion and saute until onions are translucent.
5 cloves Garlic, 1 medium Onion
Reduce the heat, add turmeric, chilli powder, salt and mix well.
½ Teaspoon Turmeric, 1.5 Teaspoon Chilli Powder, Salt
Now add mashed green banana and gently mix making sure banana is well combined with the spiced onion mixture.
Cook for 1-2 minutes until the flavours blend well and green banana is heated through.
Switch the heat off and mix in coriander leaves.
5-6 sprigs Coriander Leaves
Serve delicious aratikaya puttu with rice and pappu or rasam.
Notes
